SFA

SFA, a scientifically research-based comprehensive school-wide reform initiative is in its seventh year of implementation. SFA works with Bethune Elementary to align curriculum, instruction, instructional resources, assessment, and professional development with state standards. Teachers follow a script to present high-quality lessons as part of the reading curriculum. During the administration of SFA, students are homogeneously grouped by their reading abilities to receive 90 minutes of uninterrupted reading instruction.

An essential component of the Success for All reform initiative is providing consultants to oversee the implementation process. These persons visit the school six times a year to analysis school data, observe, offer suggestions, and monitor the progress of SFA. During implementation visits, SFA and Reading First consultants, administrators, and teachers meet to discuss program strengths/weaknesses and to redirect teacher behaviors and practices during reading instruction.
